Im letzten Jahr war das Projekt kunstort ELEVEN artspace zu Gast in den Galerieräumen des Kunstmuseums Reutlingen. Zur MailArt-Installation „return to SENDER“ im Rahmen der Ausstellung habe ich mich mit einem kleinen Beitrag in Form eines Briefes – selbstverständlich auf dem Postweg – beteiligt:

Die Klang- und Performancekünstlerin Monika Golla und der Installationskünstler Frank Fierke, die das Projekt tragen und die Ausstellung kuratiert haben, schreiben dazu in ihrer Online-Dokumentation:

„Wie unglaublich fies……!! How mean is this MailArt by Markus Baumgart:
‚This envelope is empty or not empty, so please in any case DO NOT OPEN IT! It may contain an important message, a declaration of love, a picture of a cat, a false knowledge, an infinitely small or huge, banal or significant art work, a few remaining atoms of Tübingen air? SO PLEASE DO NOT OPEN THIS ENVELOPE!‘
Frank and I disagree – he says, as artists we should respect the written words and not open it. I say, just as artist we should accept the challenge and break the rules and of course open it! … What do you think? Until now WE have not opened it (…not yet)!! :-)“

Und ein Kommentator: „Burn it.“ – Wozu ich meine: Okay, aber ohne dabei zuzuschauen, am besten mit verbundenen Augen. Und danach bitte unbeobachtet und mit weiterhin verbundenen Augen die Asche vom Wind davontragen lassen. Damit dieses kleine Werk weiterhin existiert. Oder nicht existiert.
